ReSkate Mods Broken After Update? Compat Guide

Mods broke after a ReSkate update? The pinned game build 25414733 decides what loads: how the launcher checks, skips outdated mods, and how to fix it.

ReSkate Mod Not Working After an Update? Compatibility Guide

If your mods stopped working right after a ReSkate or skate. update, the cause is almost always a version mismatch, not a broken install. ReSkate pins one exact Steam game build (25414733, as of v1.1.3, 2026-10-06), the launcher verifies it on every run, and mods built for a different build are skipped by name. So step one is always the same: read the launcher message, because it already tells you which mod was skipped.

Official source: ReSkate on GitHub — the README's Mods section documents the pinned-build check and the skip-by-name behavior; the pinned build itself is nailed down in Engine/Game/Build/supported_build.h (steam_build_id = "25414733").

Whose Fault Is It? Check This Table First

Most "update broke my mods" reports fall into one of four buckets. Find your symptom before reinstalling anything.

Symptom Likely cause What to do
Launcher names a mod during PLAY and the game starts without it Mod was built for a different game build and got skipped Disable that mod and wait for the author to update it (see fix steps below)
Game crashes on launch after updating to ReSkate 1.1.0 or later, with old board or map mods Known issue #46: pre-1.1.0 deck and map mods can crash the new runtime Reinstall those mods from MY MODS to get current files
Steam updated skate. and ReSkate wants to download files on next launch Steam moved your install past the pinned build Let the launcher restore the supported build; this is normal, not an error
Nothing loads on a server after either side updated Player and server run different ReSkate versions Update both sides to the same version; mixed versions are not supported

If none of these match, the general crash checklist lives on ReSkate Errors and Crash Fixes.

How the Pinned Game Build Works

ReSkate does not patch whatever game files happen to be installed. It targets exactly one Steam build of skate. at a time:

  • The supported build is pinned in source (Engine/Game/Build/supported_build.h): Steam build ID 25414733, as pulled 2026-10-07. It has been unchanged from v1.0.0 through v1.1.3.
  • Before launch, the launcher checks that your game files equal the pinned build. If files are missing, or Steam has already updated past it, the launcher signs you in to Steam (phone-app QR scan or username plus password plus Steam Guard) and downloads only the files it needs.
  • At runtime, all memory addresses and fingerprints live in per-build tables, and hooks verify the expected bytes first. If the bytes do not match, ReSkate refuses to hook rather than patching blindly. That is the technical reason old mods get skipped instead of corrupting your game.
  • When EA ships a new Steam build, your normal Steam install updates as usual, and the launcher installs the supported build back. Mods made for an older build are then skipped by name rather than merged into a game they no longer fit.

One honest caveat, with an as-of date: as of 2026-10-07 there has been no real build-break incident yet, because EA had not pushed a new Steam build in the five days since ReSkate launched. Everything above is the documented mechanism, not a war story. This page will be updated the day a real build change happens.

Compatibility Reference (as of v1.1.3, 2026-10-06)

ReSkate version Pinned Steam build What happens to your mods
v1.0.0–v1.0.3 25414733 Mods load, but a broken mod could take the game down with little explanation
v1.0.4 and later 25414733 PLAY merges mods first and names the bad ones; read that message before touching anything
v1.1.0 and later 25414733 Old deck and map mods may crash at load (issue #46); reinstall them from MY MODS. The physics body limit also rose from 8,200 to 65,000, which fixed big-map crashes but changed what old map mods expect
After a future EA Steam update New build ID (unknown today) Launcher restores the pinned build automatically; mods targeting a different build are skipped by name until their authors rebuild them
The pinned build is the page's core variable

Whenever anything on this page stops matching what you see, check the pinned build first: open the Releases page, note the newest tag, and compare against the build your launcher reports. If the numbers moved, this guide's tables need a refresh too.

Fix It Step by Step

Follow these in order; most cases resolve at step 2.

1. Read the skipped-mod message. Since v1.0.4, pressing PLAY merges your mods and calls out the broken ones by name. That name is your whole diagnosis: the problem is that mod, not your install, not your PC.

2. Disable the named mod. Use the launcher MODS page, or press Insert in game to open the ReSkate menu and toggle it under MODS. Most mods take effect without a restart. If the game now starts, you have confirmed the culprit.

3. Look for an updated mod file. Mods live on Thunderstore's ReSkate community, which held about 216 mods and 326,000-plus downloads as of 2026-10-05. Check whether the author has published a build for the current ReSkate version, then install it the same way you installed mods originally — full instructions are on How to Install ReSkate Mods.

4. Special case: crashes that started with ReSkate 1.1.0. If old board or map mods crash the 1.1.0-plus runtime (tracked as issue #46), reinstall those mods from MY MODS rather than toggling them. And if you run very large custom maps, remember that anything before 1.1.0 could also crash against the old 8,200 body limit — updating ReSkate itself is the fix there.

5. Special case: Steam updated underneath you. Let the launcher finish its verification and file restore. If you are installing fresh, the PC install walkthrough covers both layouts.

6. Special case: server play. Players and the dedicated server must run the same ReSkate version. Update both if either side changed, then check the server setup guide.

7. Still stuck? Collect the log. ReSkate writes logs\ReSkate.log next to the launcher, and crash reports go there too. Attach that log when asking for help — it is the first thing anyone useful will request.

Only install mods you trust

ReSkate itself is open source and auditable, but Thunderstore mods come from many authors, and script mods execute code on your PC. The README says it plainly: only install mods you trust. Never download ReSkate itself from anywhere except GitHub Releases — no mirrors, no repacks. For the full trust picture, see Is ReSkate Safe.

Two Things That Are Not Mod Problems

skate. is free, and ReSkate never asks for your EA account. You need your own Steam copy of skate. (free to add to your library). Crash-report uploads, when enabled, send only a minidump plus the session log — never Steam credentials.

EA has not publicly commented on ReSkate. As of 2026-10-07 there is no official EA statement; the project runs without connecting to EA servers, and tens of thousands of players (about 28.7K Discord members in the 2026-10-05 snapshot) are already using it.

FAQ

Do I have to reinstall all my mods after every ReSkate update? No. Updating ReSkate does not wipe your Mods\ folder, and the pinned game build has not changed once since v1.0.0. Reinstall only the specific mods the launcher names, or old deck and map mods if you hit the 1.1.0 issue #46 crash.

Steam updated skate. last night. Is ReSkate broken now? Almost certainly not. The launcher detects the drift and restores the pinned build 25414733 automatically (it will ask for Steam sign-in to fetch the files). Give it one launch cycle before assuming anything is broken.

A mod worked yesterday and fails today, and nothing updated. What now? Check three things in order: the launcher's skipped-mod message (it may have started failing its merge check), the mod's Thunderstore page for a same-day fix, and whether you changed mod load order — Mods\mods.json controls ordering, and order can matter. If the game crashes, grab logs\ReSkate.log first.

Can I force an old mod to load on a newer build? No supported way exists. The skip exists because the hook bytes no longer match, and forcing it would mean patching the wrong addresses — exactly the corruption the mechanism prevents. Wait for the author to rebuild the mod, or pick an alternative from Best ReSkate Mods.
